Afternoon Tea at The Beacon
Afternoon Tea
Step into a world of refined rustic romance with afternoon tea at The Beacon, nestled in the scenic surroundings of Tea Garden Lane, Tunbridge Wells. Set within 17 acres of landscaped gardens and overlooking the rolling hills of Happy Valley, The Beacon offers the perfect setting to unwind, celebrate, or simply enjoy a peaceful moment in elegant countryside charm.
The Beacon’s story stretches back to the early 19th century, when its grounds were used as pleasure gardens — a popular escape for visitors who came for tea, fresh air, and even a swim in the nearby cold baths. This vibrant history is what gave Tea Garden Lane its name and inspires us today as we bring the tradition of afternoon tea back to life.
Steeped in history, The Beacon began as Rusthall Beacon, an Arts and Crafts-style home commissioned by Sir Walter Harris in the late 1800s. Over the years, it became a place of refuge — sheltering Basque children during the Spanish Civil War and later Jewish girls fleeing Nazi Germany. Since the 1950s, it has evolved into a boutique hotel and restaurant, retaining its original character while offering a warm, welcoming space for memorable experiences. With its historic charm and breath-taking views, The Beacon remains one of Kent’s most atmospheric spots to enjoy a truly memorable afternoon.
